It's Trick or Treat night, peeps! I've always enjoyed Halloween, even as an adult. Tonight, my wife and I will go over to my grandma's house and help pass out candy and laugh at all the costumes. My grandma usually makes sandwiches and a pot of chili, and we have a nice time visiting with family. It'll be a nice evening.
Condos . . .
Last June, my parents bought and moved into a condominium. They really seem to enjoy it, and they told Trish and I about a condo that's for sale in the same community they live. Trish and I had been looking at houses about a year ago, but, for several reasons, we decided to keep renting. When my dad called us and told us about the condo it kinda put the "itch" back in us to look at houses again. So, Trish and I are gonna check out this condo tomorrow afternoon. I'll let y ou know what we think in Wednesday's blog.
Saturday Shopping . . .
On Saturday, Trish and I went shopping with her mother and her mother's boyfriend and his daughter (that was a mouthful). We had a great time, and it was the first time Trish and I had gone out and dropped a bunch of money on ourselves in a long time.
Trish got some new T-shirts, a pair of shoes, and a pair of pants. I got a couple books, a CD, a new hat, a T-shirt, and some new shoes.
When we were at Barnes and Noble, I was able to flip through the new Calvin and Hobbes collection. Let me tell ya, that thing is huge. And it's pretty heavy. I'm gonna wait until after the holiday season when the price drops exponentially like the Far Side collection did.
New Wallet . . .
I've decided to retire my billfold and switched to the front-pocket money clip. It holds my driver's license and two cards. So far I've really liked it. We'll see how I feel in a few weeks. One of my best friends decided to try to the front pocket wallet, but he didn't like it because the clip was poking certain parts of his anatomy that does not fair well when poked. I haven't had any similar problems as of yet.
. . . .
I hope everyone has a fun evening. Make sure to stop back Wednesday when I tell you guys about all the flicks I watched this weekend. It was a good weekend for movies.
My gosh, I'm so glad this week is over. It's finally time for my long weekend. My mother-in-law is coming to town, and good times will be had. We're going shopping tomorrow and I've got a stack of DVDs to watch. It's gonna be an ideal long weekend; I can already tell.
YHT Book Club . . .
There seems to be some awesome interest in starting a YHT Book Club. We've been shooting some ideas back in forth in the forums, and I'm trying to think of a way to sort of "organize" it so it's not just a bunch of people spouting off their favorite book. That could get confusing. If you have any ideas that could help us pull all the strings together, drop us a note on the message board.
Digg Friday . . .
Here's this weeks top Digg stories . . . in my humble opinion . . .
4. XBox 360 Games are Single-Threaded - Not exactly sure why this is a bad thing, but apparently some people who've played an XBox360 at a Wal-Mart kiosk found the graphics to be very underwhelming. In my opinion, I'm not sure how many people will care.
4.5. Playstation 3 Won't Be 100% Backwards Compatible - I don't have a link to this because I didn't digg it and I'm not sure where I read the article. But it fits with the last two stories I dugg. Apparently, the new PS3 won't be 100% backwards compatible with PS2 and PSX games. Not sure how much of a bomb this is - the PS2 wasn't entirely backwards compatible. But I guess some people are in a tizzy about it.
3. Nintendo Revolution Worldwide Launch - June 2006 - Nintendo plans on releasing it's newest console worldwide during the month of June. We're talking Japan, U.S., and UK releases all inside a month. Craziness.
Honorable Mention- Blockbuster Hack: One Month Free Hack - Here's a promo code to try Blockbuster's online movie rental service for free for one month.
. . . .
That's it for me, peeps. Leave a note in the forums if you know what's good for you.
I forgot to mention on Monday that I had finally finished Eldest. It's awesome. It rocked my face off furiously. My only complaint is that the author's writing is pretty predictable. I pretty much figured out the ending when I was only a third of the way into the book. It's still awesome, though, and I recommend it to everyone.
I'm thinking about starting a YHT Book Club. Nothin' fancy. Just a sticky topic in the forum where we can all talk about and recommend books. Let me know if you guys would be interested in that . . .
I Don't Know If I Should Be Telling You This . . .
. . . but we've been discussing the YHT book(s) the past few days. Lots of cool ideas being thrown around. Lots of plans being made. Lots of big words and industry buzz terms being tossed back and forth in efforts to look knowledgeable about drawing comic strips and publishing them. It's exciting.
. . . .
Sorry for the short blog today, but I'm busier than a person with OCD putting a puzzle together.
The weekend is two days away!!! Hang in there, people!
I'm starting to run out of alliterative words for my blog titles . . .
Spelling Error . . .
As I've explained in a previous blog post, I am spelling Nazi. I'm proud to say that I rarely make a spelling mistake, and, when I do, it's usually because I type too fast and/or I'm too lazy to hit spellcheck.
However, the instance I'm going to discuss has nothing to do with typing. It was an erroneously spelled word written by my own hand and subsequently published in a cartoon on this very website. I would like to thank my mother-in-law, Patty Miller, for bringing it to my attention, though I must say that I take much gratification knowing that the spelling she gave me for the word is also wrong.
So, for those of you at home, the proper way to spell the word "dispense" is D-I-S-P-E-N-S-E. It is NOT spelled D-E-S-P-E-N-S-E or D-E-S-P-E-N-C-E (as suggested by Patty).
Also of note: abridged dictionaries are worthless. Spend the extra five or ten bucks and get an unabridged dictionary.
For those keeping count, this is the second spelling mistake that I've made this year that I know of. And I just ended a sentence with a preposition. I never said my grammar was good; just my spelling.
3 DVDs for $30 at Hollywood Video Rules . . .
My wife and I bought sixty dollars worth of "previously viewed" DVDs yesterday. I've bought several DVDs from Hollywood Video that are previously viewed, and I've noticed that you have to take advantage of these sales early. If you tarry (new word I thought I'd use) you'll end up having to choose between Bring It On 5: The New Class or The Bare Wench Project (which is an actual movie, by the way - never seen it).
Here's the flicks we picked up:
Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy Spanglish Fever Pitch Elf A Lot Like Love 50 First Dates
My Cousin's Wedding . . .
My cousin got married this weekend. He was pretty inebriated when Trish and I left. I'm not much of a drinker as I don't really care for the taste of alcohol, but I decided to have a beer when Trish came back to the table with a beverage my sister referred to as "jungle juice". Not quite sure what to make of "jungle juice", but Trish seemed to like it okay.
I only drank the one beer and Trish only the one "jungle juice". However, my cousin did put a lot of pressure on me to have a "Jaeger Bomb". According to my cousin, a Jaeger Bomb is a mixture of Jaegermeister and Red Bull energy drink. It seems to me that a concoction like this could kill a man of about one hundred fifty pounds or less. Why would you mix a "downer" with an "upper"?
It must be popular. Budweiser has an energy drink now. I heard it tastes like "yak puke". I've never tasted yak puke, but that's how it was described to me by one of my friends. I'm assuming he has a history with yaks and their retchings.
. . . .
Be sure to leave a message in the forums and hit me up on Myspace. I love talking to people and I'm always happy to receive messages.
Have a great week, and make sure to buckle your safety belt. Remember - it's Click It or Ticket.
I'm still reading Eldest (I promise to have the book back to you soon, Ben), and it's still rocking my face off. I had to put the book down a couple weeks ago to get some cartoons done, and then I decided to read Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere. This is just a message to let you know that if you pick up Eldest, read half of it, put it down for a few weeks and read other things, and then pick it back up and start reading it again that it will still be totally awesome. Consider this a public service announcement for you cool cats out there.
Mid-Ohio Con . . .
I'm currently working on getting a table at Mid-Ohio Con. There's some forms I gotta fill out as well as a mandatory drug test. They wanna make sure none of the artists are on performance enhancing drugs like Ritalin.
I'll let you guys know when I get the table, and I'll try to let you know where it's located. In the meantime, start planning your trip to Columbus, OH after Thanksgiving so you can come and see me at the show. All the cool kids are doin' it . . .
Digg Friday . . .
A few interesting things happened this week in tech news. Here's my top five stories from digg.com. Be sure to check out my profile to see all the stories I've dugg.
5. Anti-Bacterial Soap is Bad For You - Scientists have discovered that anti-bacterial soaps aren't any better at cleaning skin than regular soap. In fact, anti-bacterial soap could lower the immune system to certain bacteria that can cause health problems. The findings are being submitted to the FDA.
3. Hacking Sleep is Stupid - Over the past week there have been several articles on digg about how to change your sleeping patterns to help you be more producting. One such pattern was the polyphasic sleep method which states that by taking several small naps during the course of a day, a person can get by with less sleep and be more productive. I didn't digg any of these stories. The guy who wrote this article discusses the health implications of altering a normal sleeping schedule. Not surprisingly, there are several severe health implications including weight gain and a shorter life span.
2. XBox 360 Games Hit Gamestop; Wallet Explodes - XBox 360 games made their debut at Gamestop and EB Games, and, boy, are they expensive! We're talking $50 to $60 for a new game. And an extra wireless controller is gonna set you back $49.99!
1. Penny Arcade Donate's $10,000 that Jack Thompson Promised, Jack Thompson Calls Cops on Penny Arcade, Jack Thompson Under Investigation, Jack Thompson Calls for a Truce, Thompson Not Being Investigated Over Penny Arcade Feud . . . Yet - Without stating my opinions, I'll summarize the drama that's been going on between the creators of the webcomic Penny Arcade and Florida lawyer, Jack Thompson. Jack Thompson is a lawyer who is a staunch advocate against videogames with adult material being sold to minors. He was involved in a case where a young kid killed someone and blamed Grand Theft Auto: Vice City for teaching him how to kill people. Thompson made an offer to the videogame industry that someone make a gruesome videogame involving a man seeking vengence on videogame companies in a violent and deadly manner. He said he'd donate $10,000 to the president of TakeTwo Interactive's choice. When some modders on the internet made some changes to GTA: San Andreas to reflect the videogame that Thompson proposed, Thompson said that the proposal was satire and "renegged" on his charity offer. The guys at Penny Arcade caught wind of this and donated the $10,000 to the Entertainment Software Association Foundation in Jack Thompson's name. Jack got ticked, and there were a few high-spirited phone calls between Jack and Jerry (Gabe) Holkins. Eventually, Jack contacted the Seattle police department to arrest the Penny Arcade peeps for harrassment - Jack had been receiving threatening e-mails from P.A. readers, and P.A. has a shirt on ThinkGeek that says "I hate Jack Thompson". Now, Jack Thompson is supposedly under investigation for some junk that went down in March of 2005 and September 0f 2004. It's all craziness, but it makes for good readin'.
. . . .
Okay, that's Friday's blog. I got a bunch of crap to get done today, so leave a note in the forums so I have something to look at when I take breaks! Have a great weekend!
I'm constantly banging my head trying to figure out ways to increase traffic to my website. My Myspace account and the Webcomics List are two examples of things I feel may (or may not) help get more eyes looking at my site. The problem is there's really no universally successful method of of getting more traffic. Except for word of mouth.
This may sound egotistical, but a few times a month I'll do a Google search on You'll Have That and my name to see what pops up. It amazes me how the search results are getting larger and larger. And what blows me away even more is the amount of people I don't know or have never had any interaction with (as far I know) who post such nice things about my comic strip on their blogs.
These are just a couple examples of the things I've found on the web. Not that there's a veritable ocean of YHT info and reviews, but it still amazes me. There's even more people who simply link to You'll Have That on their blogs, or mention the strip on message boards or blog comments.
The purpose of my posting all this is to say "thanks" for helping get the word out about my pride and joy. When I get fanmail I make a point to respond to every single one. Without knowing who these bloggers and message board posters are I'll just say "thanks" in one large blanket sweep.
So, thanks. :)
Mid-Ohio Con . . .
I'm looking into to getting a table at the Mid-Ohio Con this year, and it looks like one Mr. Zach Miller may be joining me at the con. I'll keep ya'll posted.
The Great YHT Pump-a-kin . . .
Nick Freni was so inspired by yesterday's comic strip that he decided to carve his own braindead pump-a-kin. Check it out in the forums.
Nick's pump-a-kin gives me a great idea: What do you guys think about having a Great YHT Pump-a-kin Carving Contest? There'd be some original artwork up for grabs . . . Let me know what you think in the forums.
. . . .
That's all for now, peeps. I hope everyone's week is flowin'.
We decided to take the poll down early (for a couple reasons that I'll explain in a second), and we're proud to announce the new URL for You'll Have That is yhtcomic.com*! So tell all your friends and family to check out YHT by giving them the new, easier URL.
There were two reasons we took the poll down early:
1. We were worried that someone might see the web addresses and snatch them up before we could (thanks for the heads up, Scott).
2. Yhtcomic.com was beating the pants off of the other three options. So there you go.
Thanks to everyone who voted. I really appreciate your help in figuring out the new web address, and I hope everyone finds it easier to remember and pass along to people.
*The new address is just a forwarding address. If you've got the old URL memorized it'll still work.
My Interview . . .
Well, OSU was able to come out on top of MSU, and, as a result of a bet, you can read my interview with Britt Schramm (Longbox Preacher) over at moviepoopshoot.com. Britt asked some great questions and I had a lot of fun talking to him. Here's some of the things we talked about:
- Origins of You'll Have That - The possibility of YHT After School Specials - My thoughts on syndication - Music - Sports - Future plans for YHT
* If you can't access the above link to the interview, here's the mirror site.
. . . .
That's all the news for today, children. Remember to vote for my comic everyday! Remember to hit me up at Myspace! Remember to tell your mom you love her!
To the right of the blog you'll see a new poll. We're trying to think of an easier website address for You'll Have That, and we need your help. Youllhavethat.com is already taken, so we'll have to work with a hybrid of words. We've narrowed it down to four different URLs, so please take the time and vote on your favorite one. If you've got an idea for a YHT web address that isn't listed, please let us know what you're thinking in the forums.
We're gonna run this poll until next Friday. So make sure you vote!
The Showdown . . .
For those of you who don't visit the forums regularly, let me fill you in on a bet going on between me and one of the messageboarders, Britt.
As many of you may know, I live in Ohio and I'm a huge Ohio State fan. Britt is a Michigan State University fan. This weekend, Michigan State will come to Columbus to play Ohio State. It'll be an awesome game fo' sho'.
To make things interesting, Britt challenged me to a bet. The rules are Ohio State has to win by seven points or more in order for me to win. If they win by six points it's a push. If they win by less than six points or lose the game, then Britt wins.
Here's what's at stake:
- If I win, Britt has to write an entire article about You'll Have That for his column, Preachin' from the Longbox at moviepoopshoot.com.
- If Britt wins, he gets to choose a piece of original YHT comic art.
The main reason I wanted to tell all of you this is so that when you see the YHT article on Preachin' from the Longbox, you'll know it's because I won a bet. I just want to be straight up about that now. I hope you'll still read it, though, because it's gonna be a good article.
Digg Friday . . .
Digg Friday is upon us, so once again I'll list my top five favorite Digg stories from the past week. To see all the stories I've dugg, make sure to check out my profile at Digg.com.
5.Pics of Electronic Paper and Paper Thin Televisions - These two articles sort of go hand in hand. We've heard rumors of e-paper for awhile now, but here's more proof that the technology is still be worked on. As a cartoonist, I think this is exciting for the future of newspapers and syndication. A newspaper could be entirely web-based and transmit content to subscribers' e-paper. A single customer could subscribe to hundreds of newspapers and view them on a single device that simulates a piece of paper. I think it's awesome.
3.EU Says Internet Could Fall Apart - The European Union says that if they don't get some control over the internet sometime in the next month, the entire web could fall apart.
2.Geek Goes Popular on Myspace - This guy created a virus on Myspace that made him the most popular person on the social site. He hit 1,000,000 + friends in less than twenty hours.
1.The Gift of ADHD - This article lists the possible benefits of having attention-deficit-hyperactive-disorder. The list of benefits includes powerful imagination, searching insight, and unusual intuition.
. . . .
Well, that's it for today. I hope everyone has a great weekend, and remember to vote for the YHT web address. Leave a note in the forums if you get a chance.
The webcomicslist.comVote button is now located above the comic strip for easier access! So make sure to vote everyday and get You'll Have That up to the number one spot. I need all the votes I can get, so please take just a couple seconds to place a vote. And, if you can remember, vote daily and from multiple machines. That would be totally awesome.
Thanks kids!
It's ON . . .
Just wanted to let everyone know that there's a bit of a showdown going on in the forum. Complete with trash talk and mom jokes. Well, no mom jokes, yet, but it wouldn't surprise me if they start comin' out.
I Need to Vent . . .
Without going into any details about the situation, one of my best buddies has recently gone through a messy divorce. Fortunately (if it's possible to be fortunate in this situation), they were only married for a year. No kids or anything, so the split was pretty clean when all was said and done.
So, as a public service to those who are engaged to be married or are considering engagement as the next logical step in the relationship, I'd like to dispel a few myths about marriage.
Marriage is NOT:
- the next level of "going steady". - always fun. - an excuse to move out of your parents' house. - the time to start expecting a drastic "change" in your spouse. - made any easier because you've been living with that person already. (Trish and I lived together before we were married, so I can vouch for this)
If any of you are married and wish to add to this list, leave your comments in the forums. We should get a nice list going. :)
My point is this: marriage is an awesome institution. It's the best thing I ever did. We live in a society that trivializes the awesomeness of marriage, and that breaks my heart. Husbands, love your wives. Wives, love your husbands. It'd make the world a better place fo' sho'.
. . . .
I hope everyone's week is running along smoothly. Drop a note in the forums or shoot me an e-mail and tell me what you think about life. Remember to vote and check out my Myspace account. Add me to your friends list, people. I needs me some more friends.
I really like the tree I drew in the third panel of today's strip. Usually, I'm quite dissatisfied with my trees. Bill Watterson's trees were awesome, but I've never seemed to grasp his eye for them. Fortunately, I've got a few awesome trees right outside my window in front of my drawing table. So I just stared at the trees and sketched them out a little to get an idea of how I'd "attack" the third panel.
I think I've still got a long way to go, but, for now, I'm happy with today's tree. He's a happy tree. :) Neverwhere . . .
I just finished reading Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere, and, I gotta say, it was pretty radtastic (which is a word I made up that combines the words "rad" and "fantastic"). The book started off kind of slowly, but after the first thirty or so pages it really picks up the pace. I think what made the book hard to get into at first was the fact that I was expecting a much darker, more serious story. The cover of the book is dark and features an out of focus picture of Big Ben on the left side. On the contrary, the book was actually quite humorous. The dialogue was very quick and witty, and I found myself chuckling out loud a few times.
Anyway, if you're a fan of Neil Gaiman's work in comic books, you'll probably dig his novels, too.
Keep Voting . . .
We're already starting to charge back up the charts, people. Keep voting!! Tell your friends! Tell your parents! Tell your neighbors and co-workers! Vote every day and from multiple machines! Help me get to the top of this little list! Your support would be fabulawesome (which is a word I made up that combines the words "fabulous" and "awesome").
. . . .
Monday is here and he is screaming at us and making fun of our mothers. Just ignore him. No one really likes him. And even though he's saying horrible things about your mother, he doesn't really know her. He's just trying to get under your skin. If you don't let it bother you, he'll go somewhere else for at least a week.
The first five-day week of You'll Have That is in the bag. No casualties have been reported. I've been doing a lot of writing and I fell really good about this new schedule. I feel like I can finally start telling some stories again without worrying about losing the audience's attention span in between days.
Let me know what you think of this week's comics. Are you still excited for the five-day schedule? Drop a note in the forum and shoot me an e-mail.
Vote . . .
Make sure to tell all your friends to vote for YHT at webcomicslist.com. We've been holding steady at around the mid-forties mark, but I'm ready to get to the top. The comics that are at the top of the list are receiving over a hundred votes per day. You'll Have That is receiving between sixteen and twenty per day. So tell your mom, dad, sister, brother, Aunt Netta, and all your friends to vote for You'll Have That. If you have a Myspace account, send a bulletin to all your friends telling them to vote for YHT. Then have your Myspace friends tell their Myspace friends to do the same.
Webcomicslist.com is a dumb popularity contest, but I just want to fit in. My plan is if I ever hit the number one spot, I'll quickly retire my strip from the list a la Tom Green's Bum Bum Song on TRL.
Ways to vote:
1. Click on the Vote button on the side of my blog, or click here. 2. Go to my Myspace account and click on the Vote button under the "About Me" section. 3. Tell your friends to send bulletins on their Myspace and Yahoo!360 accounts to all their friends. Let's see what happens! 4. Vote from multiple computers at work and home!
Digg Friday . . .
It's Digg Friday peeps. As you know, all these stories are stories I've dugg at Digg.com. You can check out my account to see what stories I've dugg throughout the week, or simply check out my Digg News section on the side of my blog.
Here's my top five favorite stories from the past week:
5.How to Own at Monopoly - This dude spent way too much time compiling statistics for dice rolls, frequency of landing on squares, and the best strategies for landing jail. Still, though, it does tell you how to rock people's socks at this game.
My bros and I watched Serenity last night for our Tuesday Night Movie. The movie had a different vibe than the TV show. Lots of blues and cold colors as opposed to the warm reds, yellows, and oranges from the series. There were some things that I didn't think lined up continuity-wise. Also, I think the movie doesn't fare well by itself. You definitely need to see the TV series to get an idea of the characters' personalities, relationships, and backgrounds.
However, as a Firefly fan, this movie was totally excellent. When the movie ended I was so shocked to see how much I genuinely cared for these characters. There's just something endearing about each one of them and their relationships with each other that I honestly wanted to see them succeed.
I seriously hope that a sequel is made, but I imagine it may be awhile before we see one. Feel free to leave your thoughts and comments about Firefly and Serenity in the YHT Forum!
Zoinks! Magazine . . .
I received my copies of Zoinks! Magazine yesterday, and I gotta tell ya . . . I was blown away. The Boneflake gang have done a great job putting together a totally professional comics magazine. The layout is great, and the articles and advertising are pertinent to webcomics. If you're an aspiring cartoonist you definitely need to check out this publication. I don't care if you want to be a webcomic or a syndicated cartoonist, the articles and reviews in this issue were great and would be beneficial to anyone who wants to know more about creating comic strips.
I e-mailed Bill Charbonneau (the brains behind Boneflake Studios and Zoinks!) and told him how great his magazine is. I told him that I'd love to be a part of his publication as long as he'll have me, so look for another Zoinks!-exclusive You'll Have That comic strip in the December issue!
If you'd like to order copies of Zoinks! Magazine or subscribe to the publication, just visit the website: www.boneflake.com/zoinks/.
. . . .
I've gotta get to work, now. I'm still adjusting to the five-comics-a-week schedule, and I think I'm a little behind. Feel free to stop by the message boards and check out my Myspace account. Also, make sure to vote for YHT on a daily basis.
Tonight I will be attending the movie Serenity with my buddies Ben and Jage. It should be great times. I'll let you guys know what I think of the movie upon my return. For the record, Ben and I have both seen the series and we love it. Jage, on the other hand, is oblivious to the world of Firefly. I'll try to get a group retrospective on the movie.
Last night I decided to have another Molebash Movie Marathon. I invited Ben over for a double-feature of Sin City and Ong Bak: Thai Warrior. Ben left after Sin City because he was "tired". Personally, I think he's just a wuss.
Here's what I thought of both movies:
Sin City - This movie was awesome. I'd never read any of the Sin City comic books, but I'm very familiar with Frank Miller's artwork. It was awesome how they captured the look and feel of his work. Elijah Wood was scary as heck, too. I can't wait for the sequel.
Ong Bak: Thai Warrior - I rented this movie because I heard the fighting in it was awesome. And it was. There were no wire tricks. Some of the stuff that guy could do was pretty amazing. The story was pretty bland and predictable, but I didn't rent the movie for the story. I wanted to see some old-school a**kickin'. And it delivered.
Starting today, You'll Have That will update five times a week every Monday through Friday. I'm both excited and nervous at the same time. I've got lots of ideas for the characters, and writing more strips will help me flesh things out. However, I'm worried about going stale. Hopefully that won't happen. Let's see what happens in the next few weeks!
For now, though, I'm excited about this week's comics. I think they're pretty funny. But I could be biased. :)
New Boxcar Comics Additions . . .
Mitch Clem of Nothing Nice to Say and Tom Brazleton of Theater Hopper are removing their respective comics from Dayfree Press and are moving over to Boxcar. These are two webcomic heavyweights, and we're excited to have these guys join us on our fledgling ship. It makes me even more excited to be associated with the gang at Boxcar.
Zoinks! Magazine . . .
If you ordered an issue or subscribed to Zoinks! Magazine, you should expect the first issue any day now. If you haven't ordered an issue you should still be able to place an order at their website.
In case you aren't familiar with Zoinks! Magazine, it's a small newspaper that publishes webcomics and webcomic-related news and reviews. The first issue will contain strips from me, Zach Miller (Joe and Monkey), Ali Graham (HOUSD), Derrick Fish (Dandy and Company), and many others.
This week, the Digital Strips guys interview Zoinks! Magazine founder Bill Charbonneau. It's a pretty interesting interview if you guys wish to check it out.
Indigo Prophecy . . .
I bought Indigo Prophecy over the weekend and I beat it in about seven hours. Pretty short, but very good. While I wouldn't call the game engine "innovative", it is very unique and easy to learn. The story is very engrossing and keeps you glued to the game despite the lack of action in certain parts.
If not a purchase, this game is definitely worth a rental.
Our Anniversary . . .
Trish and I had a nice date for our anniversary. We went to the Easton Towncenter Mall (which is our favorite mall) and we walked around for awhile. We ate at California Pizza Kitchen for lunch and checked out a few stores. We both bought a book at Barnes and Noble. Tricia bought a book about a girl who sues her parents for the rights to her body, and I bought Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman. I've never read any of his other stuff, but I figured I'd give it a chance. It looks interesting.
That night we went the Emmitt House, which is a really nice steak restaurant about twenty minutes south of where we live. Dinner was good and we had fun "people-watching".
Last night (our official anniversary) we ate a piece of our wedding cake from a year ago. Surprisingly, it was still very good and I intend to eat more of it today.
As far as presents go, are gifts to each other were surprisingly similar. Trish had our favorite YHT comic framed. I drew a comic strip called The Molebashes, colored it with Prismacolor markers, and had it framed. Trish really liked it. I'll try to snap a picture of it and post it in the forums.
. . . .
I hope everyone had a relaxing weekend. Fortunately for me, I've still got a few more days off before I have to go back to work. I'm gonna check out Serenity tomorrow night, so I'm pretty stoked about that. I'll be sure to let you guys know what I think.
