Wednesdayin' It

Getting ready to go into work a little early today. Nothing like going in early to a job that's laying you off in a few months! Smiles, everybody!

I promise I'm not bitter . . .

Anyway, the Zuda competition has been awesome so far. It's still very early in the contest (we still have the entire month of March to get through!), but so far The Litterbox Chronicles has made a great showing at the site. Thanks to everyone who has signed up and voted! It's much appreciated! Please make sure to spread the word as the month progresses, though. We've still got a mighty mountain to climb!

In YHT news, how about this storyline, huh? Did today's strip catch any of you off guard? Huh? Huh? Nice twist, eh? You don't have to tell me. I'm patting myself on the back. :)

Very awesome twist sir! Never saw that coming.

As for your feelings about your soon-to-be-former job, things will work out. I was laid off at the beginning of February, and thanks to some dumb luck, I've got a much better job that I get more satisfaction from. I have faith that the same will happen to you.
Good things happen to good people...

NOOOOOOOOOO!

Damn those Girls Gone Wild bastards. =(

And what do you mean by laid off? Is Viper not going to be hosting your comics anymore? Do you have another place to go if that happens? What's going on? I'm confused.

what. the. face.

seriously, I was totally not even seeing this. at all. I love your comic, you just can't post them fast enough. I'm almost tempted to just not read for a week so that next week I can read like 3 in a row. That would be awesome, but I don't think I could do it. hahaha, keep it up!

Awesome! I'm glad everyone is enjoying the storyline! I was so worried that I was dragging it out too long, but I think the payoff will make it worthwhile.

Edgar - I'm being laid off from my day job. YHT isn't my day job. I draw this strip on the side, so my job loss will not affect the comic. :)

Lauremo - Thank you for the kind words! I'm glad you're digging the strip!

@Wes:

Ah, sorry to hear about being laid off of the day job. =(

I'll keep my fingers crossed in hope that someday soon this can *BE* your day job. Because quite frankly, the comic rocks and you deserve to get paid for it. And hopefully that'd mean you'd be able to go back to your insane 5 day a week schedule, which would be great for all involved. =)

Well, I hope you find a new job soon... actually, I hope you'll be able to support yourself through the comic soon... but if that can't happen, at least getting a good "day job" for the time being would be good. We're rooting for ya.

P.S. - Emaline, say it ain't so! Maybe it's her twin sister, or someone who looks like her. I'm going to tell myself that until the next comic comes out. =)

Edgar - Thanks, man! Every night I pray to God that I can make a career of drawing comics. This isn't just a "hobby" for me. I love drawing cartoons so much that it hurts sometimes.

While I'm nowhere near close to making a living at cartooning, I can say that every year has been better than the year before it! Even though 2008 has started off pretty roughly with my day job, it's started off with a BANG with my comics! I'm really excited about this Zuda competition, and, if I win, it'd be a great way to pad my bank account during the next year!

But the truth of the matter is, none of this cool stuff would be happening if it wasn't for you guys! The fact that you guys keep reading and supporting the strip is what keeps me going and keeps the drive alive! I'm so fortunate to have such a loyal readership that would go out and vote for my new comic - in fact, I'm quite overwhelmed by how many of you have gone to bat for me! In fact, the YHT faithful have made quite an impression on the Zuda readers! Check the message boards over there! They've noticed the influx of traffic coming from you guys, and some of them are kinda annoyed by it! lol

Anyway, thanks, peeps! You guys make a starving cartoonist feel like Charles Schulz!

lol! Well, they're going to have to put up with us now!

Why they'd be annoyed, I don't know though... I mean, I imagine that all of the comic creators publicize it and tell their friends and current fans to come and vote for them. I mean, do they want to be an exclusive club or something?

If they let people register from online, they should expect that new people would come to support new material. To expect otherwise is to pretty much wish that your website was a closed club, which seems silly to me.

I should give them a piece of my mind, but I guess that'd probably harm more than help. I'll just keep supporting. =)

Sorry to multi-post, but I had one more thought before I went to bed.

What if we posted a link to your Zuda comic on Digg? If we could get enough people looking at it, it'd definitely gain a lot of attention... I was actually about to do it, but I figured I'd ask you first, because if the Zuda people are already complaining about us coming by they'd probably have a cow if random people from Digg stopped over.

Anyways, the option is available if you want to hit that red, candy-like button. =)

I am still enjoying your storyline here, but I have to say your main character is becoming a bit of a whiny/weak figure - the whole "i can't do this, my wife will kill me" seem to pop up every other strip....

Sorry, still like your strip - just a bothering me past couple weeks.

@Anonymous:

I think it's pretty true to life, at least with some guys.

For example, I'm no conservative by any stretch of the imagination (I think), but I often find myself saying just that line.

Of course, in my defense, my wife *could* literally kill me. I guess she was trained in how to kill people with her bare hands in the army or something like that. Or so she tells me when I forget to take out the trash. ;)

But I digress. I think it'd be out of character for him if he was like "strippers, sweet!" I mean, can you honestly imagine Andy going for something like that? I think the reactions he's been giving are as consistent as they can be for the character. Perhaps a little over the top than a normal person's reaction, but it's a comic. Characters' reactions to pretty much anything tend to be over the top in comics. Just how the medium is, you know?

@Wes:

Ugh, I haven't gone to bed yet... I'm going for sure this time. I saw on Zune that they had little "support your favorite comic" links you could post on your site, so I figured I'd do that before I went to bed. Not many people frequent my blog, but I think those who do feel the same about what kind of comics they like as I do.

Anyways, feel free to check it out over here if you want:

http://edgarverona.livejournal.com/

And let me know if it'd be okay to hit the "digg" button, or if that's going too far. ;)

I always look forward to a day with a new comic (Tuesday/Thursday/ Saturday for me in New Zealand) but that cliff hanger is making me wish the time away more than usual! I can't wait to see where it's going to go.
I love reading You'll have that. Thanks so much for sharing it!

actually, it makes a lot of sense that andy keeps saying "my wife is gonna kill me!", because... well, she'll f'ing kill him.

haha, and i like this development right here. i just hope that nobody gives emaline too hard of a time. everyone's done crazy stuff when they were younger, and it's not like she's STILL running around taking her top off for cameras.

er, unless she is.

I'm sure that the Zuda editors don't care at all that we're sending traffic over there. The people that seem somewhat annoyed are the people commenting on the competition as a whole. I don't think there is a lot of love for gag-strips over there. But that's okay.

Edgar - If you'd like to place a link on Digg, that's fine with me! Go right ahead. It's all promotion, and I'm not afraid to get the word out there. I'm glad you're willing to help!

And thanks for the blog post!

That is true, there's some vocal people in the message board who seemed (unfortunately) hostile toward the concept of a gag strip.

I think they need to know that we're as important of a segment of the "comic reading" demographic as they are.

I'll post you up on Digg after work today, see if we can drive some traffic over there. I've yet to have a "popular" article on Digg so I don't know if it'll be found, but hopefully someone will pick up on it.

In the best scenario, one of the more popular Digg users will see it and post a dupe article. Usually that's bad form (though frequently done), but if in doing so it makes it to the front page that'd be great. =)

I hate drama. This competition is starting to kill me, too. I get a sick feeling in my stomach whenever I check the rankings. I'm starting to understand what Scott Kurtz meant when he said "We are not contestants".

I still wanna win, though. :)

Ah, aye... don't let it stress you out, that won't be good either.

Pretty much at this point, it's "whatever happens, happens" anyways. You can help along advertising efforts and such, but you can't really do anything directly it sounds like.

So you're doing the best you can. And even if it doesn't work out, you rocked the Comic Book traditionalist culture to its foundations.

Like they've been saying over and over in the message board, they've never seen a comic like yours do as well as it's doing. That's pretty impressive in and of itself.
