No Zuda For You!
Well, the final votes have been cast and tallied, and after a whirlwind month The Litterbox Chronicles have finished in second place in the Zuda competition for the month of March. Congratulations go out to the creators of Black Cherry Bombshells for winning the competition. They'll now get a contract offer from Zuda and DC, and hopefully we'll see new BCB strips in the coming weeks/months.
I just want to take the time to thank all you YHT readers for showing up and voting for LBC. We made quite an impression despite not winning the competition, and that's all I could really ask for. In particular, I'd like to thank:
- Drew and Allison Bennett (and little Eva, too!) for being a hardcore YHT fans and always helping me out when I need some promotion.
- Edgar Verona for being a hardcore new reader and leaving a ton of comments on the LBC page, as well as other Zuda competitors' pages. That was classy.
- Mike Kumlin and the Battlemouth.com peeps. You guys showed up in full force and got the attention of several Zuda readers, contributors, and contestants. I thought that was awesome!
- Rick Marshall for the interview and supporting me and YHT (as well as LBC this month). You're an asset to webcomics, Rick.
- Everybody who wrote blog posts and message board posts telling people to vote for LBC. I appreciate the help with the grassroots guerilla marketing. It helped exponentially!
At this point, I'm not sure what the future of LBC will be. I've got more ideas for the strip, but I also have ideas for other strips and comic projects. I'm not sure what to pursue first, or if I should even pursue them at all right now. I've got time to think about it. In the meantime, let me know if you think LBC is something you'd like to see continued. Maybe I could tweak it a little bit and find another place to publish it. Who knows. Lots of ideas, so little time.
In YHT news, I'm taking a break from the Steve/Emaline storyline this week. Things will kick back in next week. Stay tuned!

You gave it your all and did darn well in a new environment (that turned out to be unexpectedly hostile =( ). You should definitely be proud of the second place ranking you got... I think if it was a competition with more "average joe" readers and less "hardcore traditionalist comic book" readers, you'd have won by a landslide.
9:02 PMAnyways, well done on the placing! And I definitely hope to see more LBC!
well, i do consider it weird that the cherrybombstuff won, its horribly written, horribly illustrated and horrible in general, i think there were far better stuff in the competition than that, your comic included.
12:47 AMbut hey! you got the second place, and won part of the race, wich is really important, because it means you have a good story and good characters in there that you can, and its what you should do, use later.
Aye, I agree: Black Cherry would've likely placed in the bottom three of my selections. Litterbox, Yuletide, or even the one about the kid who saved an alien homeworld (I forget the name of it) were all much better than it in my opinion.
2:17 AMFrom what I heard, they were extremely popular/well advertised on MySpace, and through their friend network they got a lot of people to vote for them. It was a shrewd plan... I'm not much for MySpace personally, so I couldn't have even begun to try something like that for LBC unfortunately. =(
But either way, it was a good fight. =)
I'm sure that Litter Box Chronicles will eventually find a place to call home. Looking forward to see some of your other, non-You'll Have That ideas, too!
10:26 AMThanks Wes,
12:07 PMI am looking forward to more LBC. I am sorry you didn't win and next competition let me know right away and I will get the blog buzz a going. I wish I could have done more. You are a talent and it will be recognized big time eventually.
Aww well, I'm sorry you didn't end up getting it, Wes. And yeah, I agree with Edgar, you would have won had the readership been less of the hardcore(/kind of elitist) type. Also, I hate to rail on other comics, but of all of them, the Black Cherry one seemed like the lamest to me. It was just weird all around. I didn't care for it much.
11:15 PMCongrats on 2nd place though (no small feat!), and I look forward to seeing more of LBC!
