PSP Crisis!!!
I bought a PSP over the weekend, and it is awesome. However, I have a problem. I went to psp.connect.com to download some free demos and videos, but I have to download the Playstation Software manager to import the files to my PSP. Usually not a problem, but it turns out the software only works with a PC! This is the first Mac-ostracization I've experienced and it hurts me to the core!
Any other PSP/Mac owners out there? Is there a workaround?

If you have an intel mac you can use bootcamp. Otherwise you can try parallels.
9:00 PMI don't want to run windows. I was hoping there was a PSP program developed for Mac . . . I'm probably out of luck.

I set up my new make with VMware Fusion. It works well. (My husband has tried Parallels and hates it.)
9:04 PMOh, and if you want to spend a few hundered bucks, it looks on my PS3 like you can sync the PSPs from there, but I'm not really sure!
9:05 PMI use Parallels to run XP and I like it. It integrates into expose very nicely.
12:20 AMI didn't know iMacs came intel based now. If they do then just run windows in parallels. TRUST me it is super better than bootcamp and it really is worth it I promise. Why bother with Intel Macs if you don't have both worlds on it?
1:47 AMI don't want the virus exposure. I guess I could avoid that by not going online while in windows, but I just don't have a reason to switch back and forth between two OS's.
7:33 AMI'm a full on Mac Snob, now. I can do without the psp downloads anyway. They weren't that big a deal.
Thanks for the tips, though! I do appreciate you guys chiming in and giving me your two cents!

I have two Intel Macs and I don't run windows on either. Haven't had the need.
12:52 PMI'll look in a few places that might have some PSP ideas, Wes. But there are still a few companies out there who do some pretty clueless stupid stuff like this.

12:52 PMHave you looked at PSPWare?
1:17 PMhttp://www.nullriver.com/products/pspware
It's about $15, which isn't so bad. (I use their connect360 software to stream music/vids to my xbox360)
Aside from that, you really may not need a *manager* software, so long as you can figure out where & what format files need to be in.
I know there are a number of video converters out there that are good. (Handbrake, VisualHub, ffmpegx)
seas.
1:40 PMI have a similar problem because I don't own an psp-to-pc-cable so i cannot download demos and other things directly to my psp.
I use the following workaround:
First, search the internet for PSP OFFICIAL DEMOS (highly probable that you find those on some psps-homebrew/hack-sites), download the OFFICIAL DEMOS, then put them on your psp (//PSP/GAMES/game-folder with the EBOOT.PBP file).. you have to be careful because the psp is not able to search subfolders, so //PSP/GAMES/worms2-demo/worms2demo/eboot.pbp won't work!
then if you put them onto your memory card, just start your psp and choose the games through the menu...
can't give you any pages because mine are in german(with german files)...
if you need any help just mail me @ erikschrody@sms.at or answer here..
sadly, sony is very aggressive whith any kind of homebrew software or just simple filemanaging, so they force you to download the file with the stupid download-manager...
with this workaround you probably won't be able to get the newest files as soon as they are published but a week or so later..
if you want to download full games(when paying for them) through the dl-manager, good luck, because i have not seen a possible and legal work-around yet...(avoiding windows)

Omar says: Andy I can't believe you wasted your money on a PSP when the PSP phone will be out before you know it!! What a dork!
2:05 PMFireMac2d says: I'm so Gel dude!
obviously you just need to go buy a PC with windows...
5:58 PM;)
nah, sorry I can't offer any advice, but I've never owned a PSP
why own a mac and dual boot? if youre going to have the maclove, macpride, macnuggets, whatev then stick it to your favorite companies to provide you macfriendly options.

I guess you've seen this already

Windows isn't bad to use as a secondary OS if you know what you're doing... I've been running the same base install for over 3 years now and haven't had to remove or attempt to remove a single virus... just don't go to any stupid sites & keep a good pop-up blocker
I'm almost 100% sure that if you have a wireless network and know how to connect to it you can download it via the internet. especially if you just bought it you should be able to under settings. you don't need to use a comptuer at all!
10:26 AMUnless the PSP is different in Canada and the United States. But mine is updated and has not once connected to my comptuer.
Reading the comments, I almost made it through without someone suggesting you buy a PC. SO ... CLOSE...
10:32 AMI understand - I have my fair share of Mac Ostracization, and I work for Apple.
Good Luck - there are some crazy workarounds out there on the interwebs.
Wes, I don't own a PSP but I do own a Sony Ericsson phone and I'm able to transfer files between my Mac and my phone by just plugging the memory stick into the computer (you'd need a card reader) and dragging and dropping. If the PSP works the same way, your memory stick should show up as a removable drive when you plug it in.
12:45 PMIf you're talking about the internal memory or something, you could check out The Missing Sync for PSP (these guys make great software for syncing Palm pilots, pocket PCs, etc. and Mac) or iPSP. Either one would work.
I can transfer regular files fine. I've got MP3s and pictures loaded up without a hitch.
1:46 PMThe problem is when I'm downloading game demos from the PSP website. I have to have a piece of software to transfer the game demo to the PSP. The program changes the file type and extension so the PSP can read it properly. I can take the downloaded files and place them directly on the memory stick without the use of Sony's program, but the PSP doesn't recognize the files.
I've tried downloading directly from the browser on my PSP - which DOES work - but the game demos on the PSP browser are not as current as the demos on the PC website (which can't be reached from the PSP browser).
All in all, it's no big deal. I can live without a couple game demos. I just think it's funny that a large company like Sony didn't think about Mac users when creating its PSP download software.
Thanks for all the tips, people!
