Bleeker: The Animated Series

Jonathan Mahood who draws Bleeker: The Rechargeable Dog has been optioned for a Canadian animated television show. The animation project is hoping to produce 26 11-minute episodes for the 6-12 year old audience. Bleeker first appeared over on ComicSherpa last year, and later was picked up by Universal Press Syndicate's GoComics.

Now what about an animated series featuring Viper's own Rip Haywire?

Thirty Years Ago

Star Wars is celebrating its 30th anniversary. That is, in 1977 Star Wars: Episode IV, A New Hope, premiered in theaters. Of course, back then we didn't know it was the fourth episode nor that it was called "A New Hope."

Now why isn't Twentieth-Century Fox rereleasing the original Star Wars in theaters? Personally, I would love to take my son and see this movie on the big screen -- the way I originally saw it. I think it would sell big. Bigger than most of the "original" blockbusters or sequels that are being released this summer. Sure the 70s special effects are antiquated and Mark Hamill's acting needs work (check out that doubletake in the scene where a clean C3PO informs Luke that the droids might have seen some action in the rebellion), but the movie had heart.

This next item is for my son, who loves all things Star Wars: Not many people have had the opportunity to play with these, but they must be worth something. They're still in their original packaging.

The Cicadas Are Coming! The Cicadas Are Coming!

I think this is a regional concern, but in Chicago the news stations have been covering this groundbreaking story--a lot. It seems the 17-year cicadas are about to emerge and take over. Bwoa-ha-ha-ha-ha!

What's a cicada, you may ask? Well, enjoy this informative video.

But be warned: This video is not for the faint of hearts. Better watch this on an empty stomach. Although I've heard that these little buggers taste pretty good dipped in chocolate. I'll let you know.

I wonder what ad by Google is going to pop up after THIS blog entry.

A Thousand Places

I really did purchase 1,000 Places to See Before You Die by Patricia Schultz. One day I had too much time on my hands and actually counted the number of places I had seen.

55

I guess I've got some traveling to do.

You'll Have That

This particular Small Wonder is inspired by Wes Molebash's excellent webcomic.

Andy is sporting quite the six pack--at least, I think it's Andy. Maybe it's Ah-nold. Though I find it hard to imagine Katie oggling the governator.

Anyway, You'll Have That is a great strip about relationships and why we should have them.

Wonderful World of Color

Inspired by my kids, who spend the morning coloring the comics section of the Tribune for me -- as well as those readers who have suggested more color comics -- I will attempt all-color Small Wonders for your reading pleasure.

And for those readers who have suggested I update Small Wonder on a daily basis -- all I can say is: one step at a time.
